“Smart Festive Eating: Savor the Season, Stay Balanced”

In Indian or any part of the country festival seasons are incomplete without a scrumptious table-full of treats. Relishing traditional delicacies and devouring desserts of the season with friends and family is what makes festivals so special but it can be tricky as well when it comes to sticking on to a healthy diet. There are some great strategies to keep you on track while you still enjoy the celebrations:

  •  Do not Skip Meals- It is seen that almost 40% of individuals tend to skip their meals in order to compensate for the heavy meals that they are going to eat during the party so that they can eat whatever they want in the party. People do this with the belief that skipping a meal can balance calorie consumption but what, they are not aware of is that this strategy can backfire terribly. Skipping a meal will make you feel bloated and you overeat later which means you would consume more calories than usual and also feel uncomfortable.

  •  Practice Portion Control- This trick is well known by everyone but do we actually control our portions when we our favourite delicacies are served during festival? Instead of avoiding on to your favourite sweets try to have 1-2pcs of homemade sweets. Have small portions of all kinds of food instead of just choosing one options

  • Choosing Sweets & Desserts- We all want to indulge on to sweets and chocolate desserts during festivals but at the same time we fear sugar but, what is a festival without sweets? So, try having homemade desi sweets like kaju katli, dry fruit laddos, instead of buying it from the market. We can try make whole wheat brownies, fruit custard, ragi cookies this will help us to stay in our calorie budget.

  •  Choosing on to Beverages- Choosing on to your beverages can be really tricky. Try not to have cocktails or mocktails as they are really high on to sugars, instead go for sodas, fresh juices and coconut water. If you are opting on to alcoholic beverages mix it with soda, ginger ale or fruit juices instead of going for coke and other carbonated beverages. One can also choose

  • Stay hydrated- Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated which will help you from overeating. Our brain sends similar cues for hunger and thirst. Staying hydrated can ensure you don't overeat without realising.

  • Eating before stepping out- One of the best ways to eat in limitation when going out for dinner is to have something light before stepping out. Eating something healthy and nutritious before a big meal prevents bloating issues. Have a bowl of salad or a bowl of soup as these serves as a appetizers thus reducing your appetite and helps you keeping in control

Food brings people together and any celebration is incomplete without them. So, do not hold yourself back from enjoying this beautiful time. Just make conscious choices!
